How to measure the transmittance and fog of acrylic plate?

Latest company news about How to measure the transmittance and fog of acrylic plate?

As a transparent or translucent material, acrylic plate is widely used in various fields, such as construction, home, advertising and so on. Its optical performance is one of the important indexes to measure its quality, among which transmittance and fog are two key parameters. The transmittance reflects the ability of the acrylic plate to pass light, while the fog reflects the effect of its internal or surface defects on the scattering of light.

Acrylic sheet light transmittance and fog test
Fog refers to the degree to which the light inside or on the surface of a material deviates from the direction of incidence due to scattering, usually expressed as a percentage. For acrylic panels, the level of fog directly affects its transparency and visual effect. However, different applications have different requirements for the fog of acrylic sheets.

High-quality acrylic plate should have a very high transparency, such as colorless transparent plexiglass plate, light transmittance of more than 92%, pure acrylic plate light transmittance is very high, can reach more than 90%. During the processing process, the percentage of acrylic will affect the light transmittance of the product, in addition, the thickness of the sheet will also affect the light transmittance of the acrylic sheet. It should be noted that the degree of fog is not the only indicator to measure the quality of acrylic plate, but also should be combined with other parameters such as light transmittance, hardness, weather resistance and other comprehensive considerations. Acrylic plate has high requirements for light transmittance, and the measurement of highly transparent acrylic plate needs to be measured with a transmittance meter (fog meter). Such as color spectrum high-precision transmittance meter (fog meter) can easily provide fog, transmittance one-stop measurement solution.

Transmittance test:
Transmittance refers to the transmittance of light through the material, expressed as a percentage. When testing, an instrument such as a transmittance meter or spectrophotometer can be used. Place the acrylic sheet sample on the test bench, ensuring that the sample fits tightly to the test bench without bubbles or gaps. Then start the instrument for measurement, the instrument will automatically emit the light source, measure the intensity of the transmitted light after passing the acrylic plate sample, and calculate the transmittance value.

Haze test:
Haze test requires the use of fog meter. Before the test, place the fog meter on a stable workbench, turn on the power and preheat it to a stable working state. Then, the acrylic sheet sample is placed on the test bench of the fog meter, ensuring that the sample is tightly fitted to the test bench. Start the fog meter for measurement, the instrument will automatically emit a light source, measure the intensity of scattered light after passing the acrylic plate sample, and calculate the fog value.

During the testing process, the following points need to be noted:
1. Ensure that the test environment is stable to avoid the influence of light interference and temperature change on the measurement results.

2. Select the appropriate test wavelength and measurement time to obtain accurate test results.

3. The surface of the sample should be clean and free of scratches and stains to avoid affecting the test results.

In order to ensure the quality of the acrylic sheet, it is necessary to test the light transmittance and fog degree. A light transmittance test gives an idea of how transparent the material is, while a fog test assesses whether there are defects or contamination inside or on the surface of the material. In practical applications, the appropriate test methods and instruments can be selected according to the needs of the test, and the quality of the acrylic plate can be comprehensively considered in combination with other parameters.
